For everyone who keeps 5,000 ruble bills at home: an important change in January

In early January, residents of some regions of Russia will be able to receive new 5,000 ruble banknotes if they withdraw cash from ATMs. These banknotes have already appeared in Moscow, Chelyabinsk, as well as in the Altai Territory and Perm Territory.

This is an updated design that is gradually being introduced into circulation and should replace the old banknotes of the 1997 design.

What's new in the five thousand dollar bill?

The updated banknotes were presented by the Central Bank on October 16, 2023. Their main feature is their dedication to the Ural Federal District. The front side now depicts the “Europe – Asia” stele, which symbolizes the border between the continents. On the reverse side there is the monument “Tale of the Urals” in Chelyabinsk and the stele “66th Parallel” in Salekhard.
