A Boeing plane was forced to make an emergency landing after one of its engines caught fire.

The Hainan Airlines flight took off from Rome's Fiumicino Airport in Italy and was en route to Shenzhen in China when one of its engines caught fire.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was carrying 249 passengers and 16 crew members when it took off at 9:55 a.m. local time on Sunday, November 10.

The video shows the plane flying in the sky until a bright orange flame appeared on one wing.

Flames quickly spread through the engine and the plane had to make an emergency landing at Fiumicino airport after it dumped fuel over the sea.

The Italian coast guard said the fire started when the plane hit a bird flying by.
