In the UK, a GP tried to kill his mother's lover in front of her by injecting him with poison while disguised as a nurse. He was imprisoned for more than 31 years.

Thomas Kwan has admitted trying to kill 72-year-old Patrick O'Hara in a “brazen” plot motivated by greed.

Wearing a long coat, brimmed hat and tinted glasses, as well as surgical gloves and a medical mask, he remained undetected for 45 minutes while examining O'Hara at his mother's home in Newcastle, and even took her blood pressure before performing another 'ection.

The poison gave O'Hara a disease that affects the flesh – necrotizing fasciitis – and surgeons had to amputate part of his arm to save his life.
