“Hedgehog” is a real space loner — Science and IT
Galaxy dw1322m205 received the nickname “Hedgehog”, not because of the similarity, but because of its solitary and small character, similar to these animals.
Astronomers have recently made a unique discovery – an isolated dwarf galaxy, nicknamed “Hedgehog”. It is located at a distance of 7.8 million light years from our planet and is the most isolated of all known galaxies.
This discovery was published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters.
The Hedgehog is so far from other galactic systems that the nearest galaxy is 3.3 million light-years away, and the nearest group of galaxies is 2.2 million light-years away.
