According to the Independent, this is stated in a new study by scientists from the University of Nottingham. In particular, the potent substances in this mushroom can inhibit the growth of cancer cells by disrupting the signals of the cells that are responsible for it.
The chemical is produced by the orange fungus Cordyceps militaris, which infects and captures caterpillars. Scientists have long believed that this could be used to create drugs, but did not understand exactly how to do this.
