Pensioners in Russia who receive payments via bank cards may find themselves in a difficult situation. This is especially true for those who prefer to leave money in the account rather than cash it out immediately.
Recently, an incident occurred with a pensioner from Kaliningrad, from whom all funds – 45,000 rubles – disappeared from her card. During the proceedings, it turned out that the bank wrote off this amount as a utility debt recognized by the court.
Although the law limits deductions from pensions to 50 percent of new income after a court decision, savings that are already in the account are not subject to this protection (Article 99 of Law No. 229-FZ).
