A piece of Queen Elizabeth II's wedding cake was sold at auction


A letter from the bride was sold along with it.

A 77-year-old piece of cake from the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip was sold at auction.

Auction house Reeman Dansie announced that a piece of cake, part of a 225-kilogram dessert served at a wedding on November 20, 1947, sold for $2,831.

The dessert was packaged in a box with silver decorations of the then Princess Elizabeth, as well as a printed letter from the bride and a decorative napkin.

The piece was given to Marion Paulson, housekeeper at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland, as a gift from the royal couple.
