The European Union is not a military alliance, but it does have certain solidarity provisions. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, in an interview with European Pravda.

“There are articles in our treaty that say that if one member is attacked, the others must provide support. Some say this is the equivalent of Article 5 of the NATO treaty. Others say it is not such an obvious similarity. But no one denies that there is an article that requires all member countries to show solidarity if someone is attacked,” he explained.
