Oleksandr made a symbolic gesture after defending the championship belts.
The holder of the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBO heavyweight titles Oleksandr Usyk after victory over Tyson Fury in a rematch, he raised the original saber of Hetman Mazepa in the ring.
In this way, he reminded the world about the outstanding hetman who fought for the freedom of Ukraine against the Russian invaders 300 years ago.
“Hetman Mazepa's saber was made at the end of the 17th century,” says Maksym Blakytny, director of the Chernihiv Regional History Museum named after Tarnovsky. “It is an example of Ukrainian weaponry, formed in particular under the influence of countries of Muslim Eastern culture, with which Ukraine maintained diplomatic and trade relations. Hetman's saber Ivan Mazepa presented Osavula Savych for his good service.
