An Arctic island with a population of 20 people — Tsikavynky
The small community has a school that doubles as a cultural center, an art gallery, a library, a cafe, a restaurant and bar, and an airstrip popular with birders.
Grimsey Island, with an area of only 6.5 square meters. km, located 40 km from the northern coast of Iceland and is the only “piece” of the country beyond the Arctic Circle.
This remote area is home to 20 residents and a million birds, according to the BBC.
You can get to the island by flight from the city of Akureyri or by ferry from the village of Dalvik. Grimsey attracts wildlife lovers, as it is home to a huge number of seabirds, including puffins, loons, mergansers and terns. The best time to visit the island is from April 10 to August 10, when the birds come here for nesting.
