Former United States House of Representatives member Matt Gaetz has withdrawn his candidacy for attorney general.
He published a post on the microblog X, in which he spoke about meetings with American senators. According to Gaetz, his confirmation to the position distracts attention from the transition work of the new administration, and now there is no need to waste time on a protracted fight:
“The Trump Department of Justice should be in place and ready to go on day one. I remain fully committed to making Donald Trump the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored to have been nominated by President Trump, and I am confident that he will save America.”
