Climate change is partly caused by changes in the Earth's rotation angle
The key factor was the active use of groundwater.
Humanity has managed to change the tilt of the Earth's rotation, which also affects climate change. This was a consequence of the intensive pumping of groundwater for the domestic and technical needs of modern civilization, writes Earth.com.
In less than the last two decades, groundwater pumping has shifted the Earth's rotation axis by about 80 cm, scientists from Seoul National University have calculated.
“Our study shows that among climate-related causes, groundwater redistribution is actually the biggest influence on rotational pole drift,” said geophysicist Ki-Weon Seo.
Groundwater fills spaces in soil, sand and rocks. They come from rain and other precipitation that…
