Coffee or coffee – how to call a drink correctly in Ukrainian – Different
The word “coffee” has its own history.
Ukrainian dictionaries have both the word “coffee” and the word “coffee”. Allegedly, the latter is synonymous with the former. So Ukrainians use both options for the name of the drink, without which the morning is indispensable for most of us.
However, which of these two words is better to use, explained linguist Oleksandr Avramenko.
According to him, the academic explanatory dictionary of the Ukrainian language states that “coffee” is “the same as coffee.” However, the specialist explains, this word was artificially introduced in the Union in order to assimilate the Ukrainian language with Russian.
“I advise you to avoid it. Well, there was such a policy. So, not “coffee” and even more so not “kohfe”, but “coffee”, – says Avramenko.
It is correct to say and write “coffee”, not “coffee”. And you also need to use the word “kavnik”, not “coffee maker”.
