Guinean human rights activists have said that the death toll has reached more than a hundred, but one government denies it
The total number of dead has not yet been confirmed, but it is much higher than the official figure of 56, the BBC reports.
Human rights activists said the assessment was based on information from hospitals, cemeteries, witnesses at the stadium, victims' families, mosques, churches and local media, including reports that more than 50 people were missing.
The country's military government warned against the spread of “unconfirmed” information and said that the investigation into the tragedy in the town of Nzerekore is ongoing.
Justice Minister Yaya Kairaba Kaba noted that anyone spreading “unverified or harmful information” would be arrested and prosecuted.
