Tomorrow, December 2, in the Orthodox calendar the day of remembrance of the holy prophet Habakkuk. Habakkuk lived during the reign of King Jehoiakim, when Judah was under constant pressure from the Babylonians. He prophesied before the Babylonian captivity, when the people of Israel were facing severe trials because of their own unfaithfulness to the Lord.
The main theme of the book of Habakkuk is the issue of God's justice. He asks God why sinfulness and injustice in the world seem to go unpunished, and why God allows sinful nations (such as Babylon) to be used as instruments to punish other nations.
