The holy 2,000 martyrs burned at the stake in Nicomedia are one of a large group of early Christian martyrs who suffered for their faith during the persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire. The event took place in Nicomedia (modern Izmit in Turkey), the capital of the Bithynia province, during the brutal persecutions of Emperor Diocletian (284–305), which began around 303.
