Do not start the call with the word hello: what are the rules of a telephone conversation

The first words can set the tone for the rest of the phone call. Using the popular phrases “Hello, yes, I'm listening” can be perceived as impolite or disinterested. There are other phrases that will help make the conversation pleasant.

You should start the conversation with the greeting “Good morning”, “Good afternoon”, “Congratulations”.
After that, ask the person if he is comfortable to communicate at the moment. If the answer is positive, then continue. If not, ask when you can call back.
