The appearance of corns and calluses in combination with a lack of sensation in the feet may indicate a diabetic foot, a general practitioner and TV presenter said Alexander Myasnikov and Head of the Diabetic Foot Center Anna Andreeva in the program “About the Most Important Thing” on the Rossiya 1 channel, Sports.kz reports with reference to NEWS.ru.
According to experts, such patients are at risk of amputation.
“There is both damage to the nervous system and neuropathy: the patient does not feel the nerve signal, so he is already at risk,” Andreeva said.
According to experts, diabetic foot can lead to the need for leg amputation. Myasnikov added that a person can unnoticed injure his leg due to loss of sensitivity, which in turn opens the way for infection and inflammation.
