The topic of reducing the mobilization age in Ukraine has been discussed for several days now. And there is a lot of talk about how this will affect the demographic situation. However, war itself has a bad effect on demography, and this does not depend on the age at which mobilization occurs.

The fact is that Ukrainians aged 18-25 are people born in the early 2000s. During this period, Ukraine had the lowest birth rate. Therefore, if, conditionally, fewer people were already born in 2001, and now they will die at the front, then even fewer Ukrainians will be born in the next generations.

At the same time, now the average age of a mother at the birth of a child is approximately 27-28 years. The father is, on average, 2-3 years older. That is, these are people about thirty years old, and they are now, mostly, already at the front. And this, of course, has a bad effect on the demographic situation.
