President-elect Donald Trump's transition team is preparing to announce that it has selected Scott Bessent, who runs the Key Square Group fund, as the next U.S. Treasury secretary, sources familiar with the matter said.

Bessent, 62, was a key economic adviser to Trump on the campaign trail, promoting his plans and crafting policy speeches. If confirmed by the Senate, which will be in Republican hands by the time Trump takes office in January, Bessent will assume the role of the nation's top economic policymaker.
