The country's ruling Georgian Dream party, which has a majority in parliament, has nominated Kavelashvili, Georgian media report. The presidential elections in Georgia will take place on December 14.
It is worth noting that Kavelashvili also played for Dynamo Tbilisi, with whom he repeatedly became the champion of Georgia. At the end of his football career, Mikhail played in the Swiss championship – for Grasshopper and Basel. He joined the Georgian Dream party in 2016.
