Former football player Kavelashvili was elected as the new president of Georgia
Current President Salome Zurabishvili and the opposition do not recognize the legitimacy of the elections.
The electoral college of Georgia, with an absolute majority held by the ruling Georgian Dream party, elected Mikhail Kavelashvili as president. He was the only candidate.

The Central Election Commission has finished counting the votes. Kavelashvili received 224 electoral votes — 200 votes were needed for victory. One ballot was found to be spoiled.
Mikhail Kavelashvili — six-time champion of Georgia in football. Since 2016, he has been a member of parliament from “Georgian Dream”, and in 2022 he headed the “Separate” party from the ruling party “People's Power”. It was the deputies from this party who initiated the review of the Georgian law on “foreign agents”, which caused large-scale protests throughout the country.
