Candidate for the post of Chancellor of Germany, leader of the CDU faction Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv on Monday morning. According to Tagesschau, the visit took place a week after German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Ukraine. This is Mertz’s second visit to Ukraine.
Merz said upon arrival that he intended to reaffirm his support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia, as well as “to find out the current state of defense” in Ukraine.
