Leading energy companies in Central Europe have appealed to EU President Ursula von der Leyen with a request to extend the deal on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. This is their latest attempt to ensure continued supplies from Russia.
Politico writes that gas supply companies, network operators and industrial consumers from Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Italy said in their letter that the termination of the deal could “complicate gas supplies” and “lead to higher prices for natural gas” for European consumers.”
