German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is ready to dissolve the country's parliament and announce new elections to the Bundestag. He stated this at a press conference on Thursday, Reuters reports.
The publication recalls that this statement was made after the collapse of the tripartite coalition led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz. At the same time, the head of Germany called on all parties to “act responsibly.”
“Now is the time not for tactics and cunning, but for intelligence and responsibility,” Steinmeier emphasized.
As is known, Scholz said that he was ready to vote on a vote of confidence in the government. Only after a negative decision has been made on this issue does Steinmeier have the right to call new elections.
