Thousands of giant spiders, which can grow to the size of a human hand, live in the UK thanks to a breeding program at Chester Zoo, writes The Guardian.
“The great driftwood spider is a harmless arachnid that plays a vital role in aquatic ecosystems, but was driven to the brink of extinction 15 years ago due to habitat loss. Chester Zoo worked with the RSPB to raise hundreds of babies spiders, keeping them separately in test tubes so that they do not eat each other,” the publication explained.
