How to say hood in Ukrainian
Not everyone knows how to call such a common item of clothing as a hood in Ukrainian.
The use of the word “hood” in the Ukrainian language is not a mistake — this word comes from the French capuchon and is in the Ukrainian language dictionaries.
This is an element of clothing attached to the collar. According to experts, it is correct to say the word “hood” for a typical element of jackets and hoodies.
Currently, foreign language equivalents are widely used. Sometimes they say “bashlyk” (from Turkic: габулт), referring mainly to a cloth hood with long ends, which is worn over a hat.
However, there are Ukrainian analogues that can be used to replace the word hood:
- cape
- hood
- koba, koba
- got lost
