How to tell if I'm being gaslighted

Unlike gaslighting, lying is not always used for manipulation.

Gaslighting and lying definitely have some things in common, such as the desire to make another person believe something that is not true. However, it is important to know what toxic tactics you are dealing with in order to respond to them appropriately.

Dr. Scott Lyons, psychologist, educator and author of Drama Addiction: Healing Addiction to Crisis and Chaos in Yourself and Others, says gaslighting “is a form of psychological manipulation for the purpose of emotionally controlling others.” It can manifest itself in many different ways, but essentially it is about making someone question their own perception of reality, memories or experiences.
