Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential elections could be a turning point for Ukraine in the war against Russian aggression. Despite months of hopes for the best, reality turned out to be harsh for Kyiv.

Illusions were dispelled
For months, Ukraine and its NATO allies have been trying to find positives in a possible Trump victory. Different scenarios were considered: from a “tough ally” to a “deal master” who could bring an acceptable peace. However, it turned out to be only a comforting illusion.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he will “end the war in 24 hours”, although he did not explain how. He criticized President Zelensky, calling him a “traveling salesman” who receives “100 billion dollars for every visit to Congress.”
