Ice Age Mysteries: Why Not All Animals Crossed the Bering Bridge Between America and Asia
Scientists have established that the swampy landscape of the Bering Bridge prevented the migration of animals over land between North America and Eurasia.
New research has shown that the Bering Isthmus, which connected Siberia and Alaska during the Ice Age, was more of a swamp in the Bering Strait, and it was impossible for some animals to cross it.

The land bridge that now lies under the Bering Strait between Alaska and Siberia was above water about 36,000 to 11,000 years ago. Scientists believe that at the time it may have been very similar to the grassy, arid steppe landscape on either side of the strait, but no one has ever explored the ocean floor where the isthmus once was.
