Hundreds of houses perched on the edge of a steep earthen cliff on the outskirts of El Alto in Bolivia have been called “suicide houses” because of the high risk of a devastating landslide.

Located on Panorama Avenue and La Seja, one of El Alto's busiest commercial districts, the Bolivian “suicide houses” have attracted a lot of attention due to their precarious location on the very edge of a cliff that is considered highly vulnerable to landslides. Rains have wreaked havoc in and around the Bolivian capital in recent weeks, further increasing the risk of landslides.
