in Georgia, riot police brutally disperse protesters – UNIAN

In Tbilisi, security forces are trying to disperse protesters using special means. Several people have already sought medical help.

As Rustavi2 reports, special forces used tear gas and water cannons against people on Rustaveli Avenue. Protesters use pyrotechnics and light lasers; several of them were detained by employees of the Special Purpose Department.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili condemned the harsh actions of riot police against the demonstrators:

“Tear gas and water cannons were used disproportionately. Mass arrests and ill-treatment. The Ministry of Education opens a hotline for whistleblowers about those disrupting the educational process… Is the USSR back?”
