“You know, I have to say that this is Alex… Pereira. I have to recognize him as fighter of the year. Alex performed three times this year and it was impressive,” Mendes said in an interview on the Helen Yee Sports YouTube channel.
At UFC 300 in April, Pereira knocked out former American champion Jamal Hill and returned in June, at UFC 303, scoring a second victory over another former division champion, Czech Jiri Prochazka. Then, in October at UFC 307, Pereira defeated American Khalil Rountree ahead of schedule.
