Konotop – an unusual phenomenon was seen in the sky above the city
Forecasters have recorded a winter rainbow, which is sometimes confused with a halo.
An unusual optical phenomenon – a winter rainbow – was seen by Ukrainian weather forecasters at a weather station in Konotop, in the Sumy region.
“A winter rainbow is an optical phenomenon that occurs under certain conditions: when sunlight passes through small ice crystals or water droplets in the air,” explained forecasters from the Sumy Regional Center for Hydrometeorology.
According to them, a winter rainbow is often confused with a halo, but there is still a difference between them: a rainbow has a classic spectrum of colors and an arc shape, but a halo looks a little different.
“This phenomenon is not only fascinating, but also reminds us that the beauty of nature does not depend on the time of year,” say the hydrometeorological center.
