The mystery of the Loch Ness Monster may be explained by a strange natural phenomenon, says Alan McKenna, founder of the Loch Ness Exploration research group.
The researcher told the Daily Mail that the peaks of “standing waves” could be mistaken for the monster's hump. He captured on video the appearance of such waves at the place where the river meets the lake at Fort Augustus (southwestern part of Loch Ness):
“A standing wave occurs when two waves from a boat with the same frequency and amplitude travel in opposite directions across the surface of a lake. When two waves from a boat finally meet and influence each other, it can result in a standing wave.”
