Mayor of Dneprorudny Matveev died in Russian captivity
His body was returned to Ukraine with signs of violent death.
The mayor of the temporarily occupied city of Dneprorudnoye, Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Matveev, whose body was returned to Ukraine in November, died in Russian captivity in February 2024. This was reported by Radio Liberty with reference to the Zaporozhye regional prosecutor's office.
“According to the doctor’s death certificate, the man died in February 2024,” the statement says.
It is noted that his body was returned with signs of violent death.
Law enforcement officers opened criminal proceedings into his death in captivity (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The forensic medical examination is ongoing. The necessary investigative (search) actions are being carried out.
