The NATO Secretary General believes that Ukraine itself must decide when it is ready to begin negotiations with Russia.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte suggested that Ukraine postpone any peace negotiations with the Russian Federation, The New York Times reports.

The new head of the alliance believes that Ukraine needs to delay any negotiations with Russia as much as possible until Western allies can provide sufficient military assistance to help Kyiv succeed on the battlefield and strengthen its negotiating position.

“There is no point in discussing in detail now what a peace process might look like,” Rutte said ahead of a two-day meeting of foreign ministers at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
