The war in Ukraine has reached a critical moment, so both Ukraine and Russia are trying to strengthen their positions ahead of possible negotiations. With this in mind, it is worth making a few points.
The first is that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not want negotiations, but understands that he will have to participate in them (oil at 50 remains a semi-mythical, but also semi-real option). Actually, the need to take part in negotiations is almost a fait accompli, which is basic for understanding many other processes.
Secondly, the Kremlin has exhausted all resources to raise the stakes (Oreshnik, even launched at Kyiv, does not change anything). The only option that remains for Putin is to try to shut down Ukraine energy-wise. But so far he has not succeeded.
