Gravitational coupling between planets can change ocean currents and climate.
More than 65 million years of geological data indicate regular changes in deep-sea currents on Earth every 2.4 million years. This is due to the gravitational interaction between the Earth and Mars, which occurs due to their orbital motion.

Deep-water currents on Earth alternate between a strong and a weak phase, which in turn affects the accumulation of sedimentary rocks on the ocean floor. As currents become stronger, they wash away these rocks. New research shows that cyclical changes in currents may be related to the gravitational interaction between Earth and Mars.
