Nova Gorica and Chemnitz – European Capitals of Culture in 2025
The Slovenian Nova Gorica and the German Chemnitz are preparing to take over this honorary title.
Since 1985, the European Commission has annually selected one or more cities in different European countries to be recognized as Capitals of Culture for the coming year.
In this way, officials want to draw attention to their cultural development, increase the flow of tourists and receive additional funding for their infrastructure.
Over the years, this title has been received by such popular tourist cities as Athens (Greece), Florence (Italy), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Paris (France), Dublin (Ireland), Madrid (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), Copenhagen (Denmark) ), Bologna (Italy), Krakow (Poland), Bruges (Belgium), Graz (Austria), Sibiu (Romania), Tallinn…
