Blessed Reverend Josaphata (née Yuliya-Evheniya Khoruzhynska) was born on November 17, 1869 in a family of Orthodox Christians in the village of Kryvchyntsi, Chernihiv Oblast. From early childhood, she showed a deep religious feeling and desire to serve God.
