Today, November 5, in the Orthodox calendar the day of memory of the holy martyrs Galaktion and Epistyma. Galaktion was born into a rich and respected pagan family. His parents could not have children for a long time and after many prayers to the gods decided to accept Christianity after hearing about the sanctity of this religion. After the mother became pregnant, they were baptized. Galaction was raised in the Christian faith from childhood.
When Galaktion came of age, his parents decided to marry him to a girl named Epistima, who was also a pagan. However, under the influence of Galaktion, she also accepted Christianity and became a zealous follower of Christ. The couple decided to dedicate themselves to God, living as brother and sister….
