Russian dictator Vladimir Putin approved the updated nuclear doctrine of the Russian Federation, which, in particular, stipulates that aggression against the Russian Federation (and Belarus) even with the use of conventional weapons, or the presence and deployment of missile defense systems and means, cruise and ballistic missiles of small and medium range, may be grounds for Russia to use nuclear weapons. In other words, Ukraine’s use of Western missiles against Russia may receive a nuclear response.
Formally, such a basis existed before (and does not mean its use). After all, Ukraine has repeatedly used Western military weapons to strike deep into Russian territory.
