Nutritionist Irina Kozlachkova recommends storing cinnamon in a dry and dark place in a tightly closed container, Sports.kz reports with reference to SE.
Ground cinnamon should not be kept at home for more than six months, and cinnamon sticks should not be kept for more than a year. After this period, the spice loses its smell and all its beneficial properties.
At the same time, the nutritionist advises choosing cinnamon in sticks, because ground cinnamon is usually made from low-grade raw materials.
“It is also important to pay attention to the country of origin. It is better to choose Ceylon cinnamon. It has a lighter color and mild aroma. The dark brown spice has a more tart and sweet smell,” the specialist added.
In addition, Kozlachkova warned that pregnant girls should not eat cinnamon, as the spice causes contraction of the uterine muscles and can trigger premature birth.
