Following the results of the May World Championships in the Czech Republic, the national team of Kazakhstan was able to maintain its place in the elite, and in November became the first ever Asian champion at a home tournament. In the country's main club, Barys, during the year there were three coaching resignations and a new manager.

Instead of Boris Ivanishchev, Nurlan Orazbaev returned to the club, who immediately organized a global restructuring. As for the results directly, Barys risks taking last place in the KHL Eastern Conference for the third season in a row.
