Candidate for German Chancellor, leader of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz said that Germany can consider participating in peacekeeping forces in Ukraine only with the consent of Russia, writes Die Zeit.
The politician noted that for Germany to participate in peacekeeping operations, a mandate is needed that will comply with international law. The key factor is Russia's consent, without which, in his opinion, such missions will not be effective and could escalate the situation.
