people could worship her – UNIAN

Research on the turtle sculpture was conducted by scientists from the University of Haifa in Israel and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Researchers have discovered a mysterious stone sculpture in the shape of a turtle in the Manot Cave in the Galilee region of northern Israel.

Measuring about 20 cm in size and weighing 28 kg, the item has characteristic grooves similar to the natural markings on a turtle's shell, writes the Daily Mail.

Experts believe the object was carved over 35,000 years ago, while the cave could be over 55,000 years old. They believe that a small stone structure was worshiped there.

Neanderthals may have already worshiped turtle figurines as part of social rituals before they went extinct, and homo sapiens adopted the practice.
