Centenarians eat on the island of Okinawa

Residents of one of Japan's five main islands are three times more likely to live to 100 than their American counterparts, and are also 40% more likely to live to age 100 than other Japanese citizens.

Okinawans typically lead active, independent lives well into their 90s and are less susceptible to common age-related diseases in the West.
