The Georgian parliament, controlled by the pro-Russian Georgian Dream party, quickly adopted amendments to legislation limiting participation in protests.
According to Jam News, in particular, it is prohibited to hide your face and use pyrotechnics, lasers and flashlights at rallies. For violation, a fine of 2000 lari (almost 30 thousand UAH) is provided. Blocking roads will be punishable by a fine of GEL 2,000 and deprivation of a driver’s license for a year.
The fine for “damaging the appearance of the city” – graffiti and protest inscriptions – has also been significantly increased – up to 1,000 lari (14 thousand UAH), and for a repeated violation – up to 2,000 lari.
