rare bird is in danger of extinction – UNIAN

The slender-billed curlew may become extinct in mainland Europe, North Africa and western Asia.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has announced that the slender-billed curlew, a coastal bird of the snipe order, is at risk of extinction. This is reported by IFL Science.

It is noted that this bird once lived in Siberia. When other birds flew south to the tropics or even Australia, these birds spent their holidays in the Mediterranean Sea.

The study's authors say this “may seem like a good choice” given what's happening to tropical forests.

“This is the first known extinction of a bird species from mainland Europe, North Africa and West Asia,” the RSPB said in a statement.
